Japan to punish illegal downloaders

Now Japan has introduced new anti-piracy law that will target illegal downloaders with 2 year’s prison sentence and a $26,000 fine.

The Recording Industry Association of Japan claims that illegal download in the country outnumbers legal ones by 10:1, and that the legal download market was reduced by 16% in 2011.

The country already has strict laws for people who upload illegal content with up to 10 years in prison and a $128,000 fine, but the new law will make people criminals for downloading the content.

With total number of global illegal music downloads estimated to around 405 million in the first half of 2012, many nations are making new laws to fight piracy.
