Mega was launched on January 20 this year & allows people to store upto 50GB of encrypted data for free. The data can be shared by users by giving out a link for it & can be decrypted if the uploader also shares the encryption key. Now since the data is encrypted so Mega cannot know what is stored in their servers. But site owners can remove content that particular data after receiving a valid copyright infringement notice regarding
that data.
Right now Mega has received 150 copyright warnings which include 250 files coming from many countries including US. These files include the movie "Django Unchained" & various versions of Microsoft Office.
Since Mega does not have a search engine to see users files because no one knows except the user what data is stored in the servers. But it seems that there is a website mega-search.me which is working as a search engine for Mega. When we searched for Microsoft Office we found many results such as:
Microsoft Office Plus 2010 Portable
Microsoft Office Plus 2010 32 Bit
It seems that Mega is working on to remove many such links from its servers. But only time will tell whether Mega remains a successor not. Mega is right now online on URL mega.co.nz you can see for yourself how the sharing service looks like.
