BBCode or Bulletin Board Code is a lightweight markup language used to format posts in many message boards. The available tags are usually indicated by square brackets ([ ]) surrounding a keyword, and they are parsed by the message board system before being translated into a markup language that web browsers understand—usually HTML or XHTML.
In other words, it is a command that you give the text to control what it will appear to the viewer once you have uploaded the text to a message board or web site.
The most common effects that one would use would be: Bold Text, Centering Text, Text Size, Text Font and Text Color. The code (although it varies slightly from site to site) is very easy to use and will dramatically enhance the look of your uploads and edits.
Most of you mods have been using BBcode already and just don’t realize it.
When you add the picture to an upload, the word ‘IMG’ surrounded by brackets is BBcode! The key to using BBcode is, it has to be ‘turned on’ and has to be ‘turned off’ after the string of text you want to change. To turn a function on, the command letter or word is surrounded by brackets [command]. To turn off a function, the command letter or word has a backslash in front of the command word and surrounded by brackets [/command].
Example
To bold a text, put a “b” in between "[ ]"in front of the word then a “/b” in between brackets behind the word. The result:
Bolded Text
To color a string of words, put “[color=(color name or number)]” before the string of words and put “[/color]” after the string of words you wish to color. The result:
Colored String of Words
.This process work the same for centering text , re-sizing and or underlining text.
The torrent description page has drop down menus that will show you your options and help you do it quickly or you can enter it manually.
To use the drop down menus, simply right click and drag your mouse over the section you want to change to highlight it. Click the option from the drop down menu you would like and click on it.
The system will automatically put the [command] for that function in front and the [/command] after the string you have highlighted.
You can also use ‘multiple codes’ for the same word or string meaning you can color, re-size, change font, etc. all on the same word or lines.
Experiment a little bit with it. Create your own ‘style’. Hopefully you will find it to be less like work and more as a creative outlet. As long as you are in the upload to add the picture anyway, have some fun with it.
