How to use Usenet

BitTorrent has been getting more and more recognized by the day. Although bittorrent is a nice tool for file-sharing, there is an even better way of doing it: Usenet (aka newsgroups). Newsgroups have been around forever - even before the world wide web. It’s very surprising that this method of sharing files has not hit mainstream yet. (Then again it usually isn't free)
There are many reasons why using newsgroups to get files is better than bittorrent:

1. Download: The download speed is ALWAYS maximum. So if your ISP allows you to download at 1000kb/s, you will get that speed consistently.
2. Upload: No need to worry about ratio’s! Why? Because there is no need to upload, ever. All the files are already located where they need to be, so unlike bittorrent, constantly monitoring your upload speed and ratio is unnecessary.
3. Search: There is no need to be in private communities to receive the best and most recent files. If you know where to look (and this tutorial will teach you) you can easily find any files that are available.
4. Doesn’t clog up your connection. There is no need to connect to 100 peers for each file, like in torrents. Just connect to the news-server, and you are set.
5. The files get to newsgroups first. Then they are dispersed to other filesharing methods, like torrents or fxp forums.(Some mac apps are released more from forums, But in general this is true)

"OK So HOW DO I GET IT?"

1. You need client to download the files, and to extract them. Usenset uses the extensions .nzb, You will Also need a program to extra the files,When you see torrents in .00, .01, that is common on usenet and the uploader was probably to lazy to unarchived then.

2. Next You will need a usenet provider, Because you are downloading directly from a server usually the server requires payment. Although Some ISP, Have usenet included with there broadband service. I recommend Astraweb Which is running a special of 96 dollars a year, which comes out to 8 dollars a month.
If that seems like alot, it is not, Giganews and others charge 30 or more for basically the same service. Astraweb allows 20 connections, SSL, High speeds, And 365 day Retention.

3. Now you need to find the files! You need a usenet indexer, There are free ones out there, But there are also paid ones which can make the file finding a little easier.

Select the files you want to download after searching.
Click create NZB, And open it with NZB drop (Make Sure it is set up correctly)
And it will start downloading the file at insanely fast speeds!
When the files are done downloading double click on a .par or .rar file with macpar deluxe and the file will be extracted,
