Backup & Restore uTorrent/Transmission Data

Whether you’re an Elite TM or a User, backing up your bittorrent client data will ensure a smooth and seamless transition. By backing up your client’s settings, history and active torrent files, you’ll minimize the downtime when migrating your bittorrent data.

Note: This guide does not provide instruction on backing up the actual content that is transferred between clients. Instead it preserves the settings of the client itself and any active torrents at the time of the backup.

Backup

1. Press Shift+Command+G whilst you are working with Finder. A dialogue box will appear saying Go to the folder:.

Restoration

Whether your client’s setting and data have been deleted via computer crash or a wipe via operating system installation, this guide will restore previously backed up bittorrent client data.

Note: The restoration will not work if you have altered the location of your files. ie: If your files were initially located in ~/Users/Goldsmith/Files then your files must be in the same location or else your client will report that the data is missing.

1. Download the latest approved bittorrent client of your choice. It must match your backed up client’s data. ie: If you backed up uTorrent settings, it is only compatible with uTorrent.

2. After you install your client of choice, open the application. After you open it, feel free to close it.

3. Press Shift+Command+G whilst you are working with Finder. A dialogue box will appear saying Go to the folder:.
